Colitis Pseudomembranosa

La colitis seudomembranosa es un tipo de enfermedad inflamatoria del intestino grueso o colon. Está vinculada al uso de antibióticos. Si toma antibióticos para tratar una infección, puede aumentar la cantidad de bacterias llamadas Clostridioides difficile, o C. difficile, que habitan en el colon. Esta bacteria puede crecer excesivamente, lo que causa la enfermedad. La colitis seudomembranosa se produce con más frecuencia en personas que se encuentran en hospitales y hogares de ancianos. Las personas mayores y las personas con otras enfermedades o afecciones que necesitan tomar antibióticos durante mucho tiempo corren un mayor riesgo. Las bacterias C. difficile se encuentran en las heces o la materia fecal de la persona infectada. Otras personas pueden infectarse si tocan una superficie contaminada con heces, como la mano de alguien o el asiento de un inodoro.
