COPD: Using Your Respimat InhalerYour doctor may prescribe an inhaled medication called Respimat to deliver medication into your lungs.To make sure that you get the right amount of medication have your healthcare provider show you how to use yourinhaler correctly.Let’s take a closer look at the Respimat inhaler. It has a cap, a mouthpiece, a button to release the medication dose,a safety catch, a dose indicator, a clear base, and a cartridge.To use your Respimat inhaler hold it upright. Turn the base counter clockwise half a turn. Stop when you hear a click.Open the cap until it clicks and stays open. Exhale deeply, away from the Respimat inhaler.Bring the Respimat inhaler level with your mouth. Click the dose release button as you begin to take a slow deepbreath in.Your goal is to hold your breath for ten seconds. Close the cap.Repeat these steps if you are prescribed an additional dose.Wipe the mouthpiece with a clean damp cloth once a week.When you finish using your Respimat inhaler store it in a cool dry place, away from moisture.Your healthcare provider will tell you how many times a day to use your Respimat inhaler.Remember when using your Respimat inhaler to…Turn the base counter clockwise until you hear a click.Open the cap.Breathe out fully, away from the Respimat inhaler.Bring the inhaler to your mouth.Take a slow breath in and click the dose release button, continue to breathe in.Hold your breath for ten seconds.Page 1 of 2This program is for informational purposes only.
