Why do babies get jaundiced, and how is it treated?“Jaundice refers to the yellow color that a baby gets when they have a high bilirubin in their body. Bilirubin isthe breakdown product of blood that occurs naturally after a baby is born. This is a very normal thing. But somebabies don't eliminate it from their body as rapidly as others. Some babies have problems because too much inthe blood breaks down. And in this sort of circumstance, we may use what's known as phototherapy or simplylight to reduce the amount of bilirubin that's present in the skin.
